Terre Haute Police Department - Employment Opportunities

The Terre Haute Police Department will be accepting applications for the position of POLICE OFFICER, beginning Monday, February 1, 2018 at 8:00am, and concluding Friday, April 13, 2018 at 4:00pm.

The application for employment and physical agility testing standards will be available for download at the bottom of this page beginning on February 1, 2018. All applications must be submitted by email to Capt. Jason Brentlinger at no later than 4:00pm on April 13, 2018. Questions may be directed to Capt. Brentlinger via email, or at (812) 244-2610.

No late submissions or paper copies of applications will be accepted. Following the application period, applicants will be invited to participate in a written examination and physical agility testing, which will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Mary of the Woods College, 3301 St. Mary’s Rd., West Terre Haute, IN 47885. There will be no additional or make-up dates for this testing, and all applicants should make themselves available on that day from 8:00am until approximately 5:00pm. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the physical agility passing standards, available in the PHYSICAL AGILITY TESTING PACKET download file, and be prepared to successfully complete these standards on the date of the testing. Each applicant must pass all physical standards on the first attempt, as there will be no additional attempts allowed. It is our policy to allow a minimum of six (6) weeks from the start of the application acceptance period for applicants to adequately prepare themselves for this testing.

Following an applicants’ successful completion of the written examination and physical agility testing, each applicant will be provided a list of documentation, as well as employment and character reference packets, which the applicant should prepare and/or complete, and return to the Terre Haute Police Department at the time of their preliminary interview.

Applicants who successfully pass a preliminary interview, background investigation and credit history review will be invited to take part in a secondary interview with members of the Terre Haute Police Department Merit Commission, who will then rank all qualified applicants upon a qualified applicant list, which will remain valid for a period of one (1) year.
