New Community Garden in Ryves Neighborhood

Earlier today, the City of Terre helped with the opening of a new community garden.  Mayor Duke Bennett is providing the vacant city lot to the Ryves Neighborhood Association (RNA) for their use during the 2011 growing season.

Following the morning groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor Bennett shared his thoughts concerning the idea that was presented to him by the RNA.  “The RNA is a great organization.  They are very active, and care deeply about their community.  This garden will be a great fit for this neighborhood.”

The previously unused lot, under the ownership of the Terre Haute Department of Redevelopment, is located at 1334 2nd Avenue.  All gardening activities will be coordinated through the RNA office, where they will enlist the help of a Master Gardener.  The Vigo County Office of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension has agreed, along with Mayor Bennett, to donate some of the plants for the garden.

For more information on using this garden, please contact Leah Myers at the RNA, located at 1313 Locust Street, by calling (812) 917-4397.  You may also visit their website at www.ryvesneighborhood.org
