Mayor Duke A. Bennett - COVID-19 Update

May 5, 2020

To all city employees,

Last Friday, Governor Holcomb updated his COVID-19 Executive Order (No. 20-26). It describes a multi-phased approach to reopening the State of Indiana and is called “Back on Track Indiana”. The following plan will describe how we will proceed as the City of Terre Haute:

May 4th – We will continue to operate as we have for the past several weeks. Some employees will still work from home and all others will continue working in their normal assigned location.

May 18th – City Court/City Clerk’s Office will open from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm on business days. The public will be limited to the first floor of City Hall only during those hours and the elevator and stairwells will remain locked all day. The public will continue to do business with other departments in City Hall via web-site and telephone only. Other city facilities will continue to be operational but remain closed to the public.

May 26th – All employees working from home will return to normal work locations (exceptions would be those who are sick or those most vulnerable to the coronavirus – please direct any questions to your supervisor). Limited public access to City Hall and other city facilities will begin between the hours of 8:00 am - 12:00 pm each business day.

June 14th – Public access restrictions will be lifted at all city facilities. We will resume normal business hours (8:00 am – 4:00 pm) with full public access to all city buildings.

This schedule was created using the current guidelines from the Governor’s Executive Order and are subject to change based on any new information and CDC guidance. I will provide updates if there are any changes to the schedule or to staff requirements.  Note: The use of face masks, 6’ social distancing and hand washing/workspace cleaning are recommended (following the CDC and Vigo County Health Department Guidelines) until at least July 4th.

I appreciate all of you working hard for the citizens of Terre Haute as we get through this global pandemic together!

Mayor Duke A Bennett
